This year has been a busy one for celebrity property purchases, with eye-watering prices paid for many of the world’s most exclusive homes.

From Hollywood actors, to famous singers, musicians and tech-focused billionaire company founders, here are five of this year’s most exclusive sales.

Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden’s Montecito mansion

Retired movie star Cameron Diaz and her rockstar husband Benji Madden splashed out US$12.67 million for a Montecito mansion in May, that can be likened to an estate in Italy’s famously gorgeous Lake Como area.

The three-storey villa comprises 1020sq m of living space, glimpses of the ocean and sits on 1.75 acres. 

The estate includes six bedrooms with ensuites, seven full bathrooms and three half-baths, including a deluxe junior suite on the main floor. 

Inside the mansion, there are high ceilings, marble and wide-plank wood flooring, a serpentine staircase and gallery in the cupola-topped, double-height foyer, while adjoining living rooms each offer a fireplace.

A stone-balustraded terrace offers serene sunset views and the chef-accommodating, minimalist kitchen is complemented by a spacious formal dining room and an oversized butler’s pantry.

Aussie supermodel Kristy Hinze Clark’s US$251 million Florida home

Celebrity couple, Australian supermodel Kristy Hinze Clark and her husband, Netscape founder Jim Clark, sold their Florida home for a record-setting US$251 million.

The Palm Beach home boasts more than three football fields of water frontage, a three-hole PGA standard golf course, 30 bedrooms and 360-degree water views.

The home is located on an exclusive barrier island, only accessible by a series of tunnels, but is only a short drive from the upscale shopping and dining district of Worth Avenue, Palm Beach.

Features include a series of formal and informal living and dining areas, a media room, libraries, offices, numerous terraces, an expansive wine cellar and two elevators.

Adam Levine’s purchase of Rob Lowe’s mansion for US$52 million

In April, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and his model wife Behati Prinsloo spent a massive US$52 million for Rob Lowe’s former mansion.

Lowe sold the nearly 3.5-acre estate in 2020 for US$44.5 million to private equity executive Jack McGinley, who then on sold it to Levine in an off-market deal.

The mansion boasts 929sq m of living space, with six bedrooms and eight bathrooms, plus three powder rooms. 

The property also includes a two-bedroom, two-bathroom guesthouse, as well as a pool house with another bedroom and bath.

The interior of the home features gleaming wood floors, intricate moldings, and custom millwork throughout, with the living and family rooms, a stainless-steel catering kitchen, a second-floor games room that doubles as a casual library and a home theatre with state-of-the-art technology.

Rebel Wilson’s renovated Sydney waterfront home

Aussie actress Rebel Wilson successfully sold her beautifully renovated Sydney waterfront home for around $9 million in April.

The three-storey property was designed by award-winning architect Paul O’Connor and includes three bedrooms, three spacious marble bathrooms plus a powder room, an elevator, and a gorgeous marble-topped kitchen.

The home offers a north-facing living area overlooking the Parramatta River as well as dual harbour views.

Outside, there are multiple terraces and balconies with 180-degree views, an infinity edge ozone pool, and on the water level, an outdoor kitchen with room for dining, a pontoon and deepwater mooring.

Jeff Bezos’ US$74 million Florida compound

Amazon founder and one of the richest men in the world, Jeff Bezos, recently settled on two side-by-side mansions in Florida’s Coral Gables for US$74 million.

Technically the two properties were purchased by Miguel and Jacklyn Bezos, who are Jeff’s stepfather and mother.

The contemporary Mediterranean villa-style property features five bedrooms and five bathrooms in more than 790sq m of living space. 

While the second property spans over 1200sq m with six bedrooms and seven bathrooms and boasts contemporary interiors and a sleek kitchen, walls of glass and an enormous foyer, with a saltwater swimming pool and extensive patios serviced by a full outdoor kitchen.

The estate also includes a host of mature palms, lush gardens, a sports court and an attached six-car garage with car lifts.
