Why are property managers worried about automation?

We live in the digital era which is quickly paving the way for the future, but adapting to the needs and demands of a tech-focused world can often be scary.

When people hear the word ‘automation’, there is a natural fear because the thought of minimising human intervention leads to an assumption of ‘less to do’ or ‘blocking relationships’.

The reality is that automation is just a bridge to allow for better relationships.

Put yourself back in the early 2000s. Remember when mobile phones were still new and text messages were only 160 characters long? Fast forward 18 years: text messages are almost limitless and we all regularly use them as a form of communication. This change only came about based on what we, the users, wanted.

It is clear that all industries are moving and reshaping towards the same future; it is inevitable.

Sure, our minds can get overloaded with long paragraphs of text messages, but it has helped bridge a gap. The innovation has allowed people to get things off their chest then and there, rather than wait for the next ‘convenient’ time. This process minimises human interaction in terms of face-to-face conversations, but has that blocked relationships or helped open them up?

It’s the same for automation and process changes in property management. It allows property managers to remove the mental workload and stress from their minds and assist in the process or procedure with reduced human intervention. This will allow property managers to focus more clearly on what their end goal is and keep their eyes on the prize – new ways to focus on better, more meaningful relationships.

You can either jump on the bandwagon and contribute to the change, or simply wait for someone else to tell you how to think.

Automation is not something that is going to happen overnight, because it requires time to learn and figure out what is fundamentally important in the industry. If the telephone was invented in 1876 and it has taken over 140 years for the changes to be recognised in every household, why is the thought of allowing better relationships in the property management industry so scary?

The reality is that automation is just a bridge to allow for better relationships.

Automation is purely a tool to help remove processes and minimise risks as they are identified – not just in the property management industry, but in industries like MedTech and FinTech, where it concerns customers’ health and financial status. It is clear that all industries are moving and reshaping towards the same future; it is inevitable, so that only leaves one real question.
