Talisha Buttsworth: Clean workspace, clear mind

Years in the industry?
Going on eight years. I started on reception straight out of high school at 17, and I am now a Property Manager at Island Sands Asset Management.

What’s a special place in your local area?
We have so many. Our local beach in Tannum Sands, walking onto Wild Cattle Island at low tide, Facing Island, and Lillies Beach. We are so blessed with our water ways.

Did you choose property management or did property management choose you?
Both, I think. I had just finished high school and Mum had mentioned I should go and do my real estate certificate so I could help her out, as she has just opened Islands Asset Management. I didn’t end up working for my mum until mid-2017.

Most memorable rental property?
37 Ocean Street, Tannum Sands. It’s a local property directly opposite our beach. It’s just stunning and so well designed. We still manage the property and I get so excited to do routine inspections.

What type of business do you focus on?
We are the only Property Management focused agent in Gladstone, which makes us unique from other agents in our area. Focusing highly on customer service – someone once told me, people often remember the best customer service at the worst times of their lives. You never know what people are going through, so I have never forgotten it.

What’s the most important part of your day?
My F45 sessions, coffee and breakfast. Ensuring my desk is also clean and tidy – I find working in a clean and tidy space so refreshing and it keeps the mind clear as you are not looking at clutter.

Where would you like to be this time next year?
Hopefully in Bali or Hawaii – somewhere warm. I honestly don’t know, this year has thrown so many curve balls, but next step is my full licence and then, who knows?

Challenge for the industry?
I think this whole year has been a challenge for the industry. As an office we have been very fortunate, however as an industry I don’t think we are out of the woods just yet.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
WRITE IT DOWN! Don’t think you know everything or will remember everything. Which is so true. (I actually think Mum told me this).
