Hugh Jackman buys minimalist West Chelsea penthouse

Hollywood megastar Hugh Jackman has quietly picked up a luxury New York penthouse in West Chelsea for US$21.125 million.

According to The Dirt, the property in question was initially offered for US$25 million, before Jackman was able to acquire it at a sharp discount.

The penthouse overlooks the Hudson River in Manhattan’s West Chelsea, while the building itself was designed by Pritzker Prize winning French architect Jean Nouvel.

The 435sq m penthouse boasts four bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms with minimalist and elegant interiors, terrazzo flooring and a polished marble staircase that leads to a 400sq m roof terrace.

The roof terrace has two dining areas, a kitchen, and a bridge across the loggia to a sun deck along with 360-degree views of Manhattan, the Hudson, up to the Empire State Building and down to the Statue of Liberty.

There are two additional outdoor spaces on the main floor, a small balcony outside one of the guest bedrooms and a loggia with glass walls.

Inside, there are extra high ceilings, two fireplaces and a host of rooms that flow easily into one another, with plenty of wall space for showing off an art collection.

The master suite is large and tranquil, with numerous closets, a large dressing room and an all-white bathroom.

Perfect for guests or kids and their nanny, the other bedrooms are situated for maximum privacy at the opposite end of the apartment.

Amenities in the building include a full-time doorman, concierge, a gym, a spa, lap pool and screening room.

Jackman has been looking to downsize after listing his West Village triplex about two months ago with plenty of publicity and a US$38.9 million price tag.
