Greg Brydon has won the 2026 Australasian Auctioneering Championship, claiming the industry’s top auctioneering title at the competition held in Melbourne.

The Apollo Auctions Australasia general manager competed against auctioneers from across Australia and New Zealand over two days, emerging victorious on home turf in Victoria.

Brydon said he’d been working toward the win since first competing at AUSTROS level in 2023.

“Ever since competing at this level for the first time in 2023, I had the trophy as a screensaver on my phone,” he said.

“I wanted to show my daughters and my family that you can achieve anything if you work hard enough.”

The championship is hosted by the Real Estate Institute of Australia alongside the Real Estate Institute of Victoria and the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand.

It tests competitors across speed, clarity, legal compliance, negotiation skill, adaptability and performance under pressure.

Greg credited close friend and mentor Luke Banitsiotis, who won AUSTROS in Hobart in 2024, as a driving force behind his own push for the title.

“After watching Luke win the AUSTROS in Hobart in 2024, I made a promise to both him and Harry Li that I would do everything in my power to keep going until I won another cup for Victoria,” he said.

“Auctioneering is far more than calling bids.

“It’s about communication, pressure management, negotiation, strategy, crowd control and creating confidence in moments that matter.”

Greg leads Apollo Auctions’ team of auctioneers across Australia and New Zealand, and is also involved in auction training, campaign strategy and performance coaching.

The REIV acknowledged Greg’s continued growth and commitment following the result.

“This win isn’t just mine,” Greg said.

“It belongs to the people who have backed me, challenged me, trained with me and supported me over the journey.

“We’ve built an incredible culture at Apollo and this is a proud moment for our entire team.”
