Amy Schumer, the well-known comedian and actress, has sold her Upper West Side penthouse after being on the market for almost a year.
According to the Architectural Digest, the five-bedroom unit was listed for US$15 million last May and was purchased by Oscar-winning composer and lyricist Benj Pasek for US$13 million.
Schumer had purchased the 418sq m apartment in 2016 for US$12.15 million.
The penthouse is located on the 12th storey of a Beaux-Arts building, which was built in 1911.
It boasts 278sq m of outdoor space, which is split between a private rooftop patio and several wraparound terraces that can be accessed by fold-away glass walls.
The penthouse has a private elevator that opens into the great room, which is flooded with natural light due to its angled skylights and tall walls of glass.
The primary suite has ample closet space, including a spacious walk-in closet and three double-door closets near the bedroom door.
The ensuite bathroom is adorned with white marble and soft rosy walls and features a six-foot soaking tub and a separate steam shower.
When Schumer first listed the penthouse, she had told the Wall Street Journal that it was her “Manhattan dream apartmentโ.
Moving into the glass-lined penthouse was “a big deal for me. It felt like such a palace,” she said.
However, Schumer and her husband, James Beard Award-winning chef Chris Fischer, decided to move to a historic Brooklyn Heights townhouse that was featured in the 1987 film Moonstruck to be closer to their three-year-old son’s school.
Schumer’s penthouse is a rare gem in New York City with its extensive outdoor space and natural light.
The fact that it was purchased by a renowned composer and lyricist like Pasek shows its appeal to those in the entertainment industry.
Overall, it seems like Schumer made a wise investment in 2016 when she purchased the penthouse, and even though she sold it at a discounted price, she still made a profit on the sale.
