EPMEPM: Leadership

Be the leader you were meant to be

If you want to become the leader in your marketplace and be recognised as an expert, you need to start behaving like one right now. Tara Bradbury explains the steps you need to take.

The process of becoming the leader you were meant to be starts with inspiring your co-workers.

Every morning you should bounce into the office ready to take on whatever comes your way.

To inspire your team, you need to demonstrate a passion for your career.

You should greet each member of the team and encourage them to have a successful and enjoyable day.

Too many leaders don’t support their team or display this passion and then wonder why everyone has such a lacklustre approach to their day.

This lack of energy will spread out to the people in your marketplace.

It will come through your voice on the phone, in video conferences and prospective client meetings.

Having an upbeat and can-do attitude will inspire your team from the moment you walk into the office. You will find the overall vibe of the team will become more positive and passionate.

This atmosphere will soon spread across your marketplace through your clients’ experience with an office that has a passion for what it is doing.

Industry leaders demonstrate passion, purpose and performance.

They are what I like to call ‘the solution experts’. Consumers are attracted to these people because they want the best.

If you want to be respected for your knowledge and achieve the title of investment property specialist, you need to understand that each person you connect with will take on your advice in different ways.

A true specialist doesn’t just create followers without understanding an individual and the result they want to achieve.

They display passion, purpose and consistently demonstrate superior leadership abilities.

A client who feels appreciated, respected and understood will, in turn, appreciate, respect and trust you.

Too many leaders don’t support their team or display this passion and then wonder why everyone has such a lacklustre approach to their day.

You want your followers and clients to see you as a trusted advisor who will separate themselves from the competitors

Consistency is key; all of the top agents become recognised as experts because they do the same routine over and over again.

What places these people at the top of their field is that even though the routine may become repetitive, they always do it with passion and purpose.

Top agents don’t make an abundance of prospecting calls or build relationships with new referral partners just because someone told them they should.

They do it because they understand the purpose of the activity and respect the process.

They have a clear understanding of what they are doing and what they hope to achieve.

This knowledge allows them to communicate well with clients.

If your vision and purpose are not clear, then why would you expect your clients to see you as a specialist?

Rent roll growth and the property management industry is in the most exciting space it has ever been in.

The technology and support available is unbelievable.

Upgrades, new versions and enhancements of many products are coming out daily to help improve efficiencies and our overall performance as industry leaders.

We are in an era where we can communicate and educate better than we ever have before.

To be seen as a leader in your marketplace, you need to be up-to-date with technological changes and be able to use them to your advantage.

Don’t let the past hold you back. Start behaving like a leader today.
