Kingston property manager becomes agency owner

As International Women’s Day approaches, one Tasmanian real estate professional is marking the occasion with a significant career milestone - Nikita Phillips has acquired First National Real Estate Kingston and stepped into the role of Managing Director.

Ms Phillips has been part of the Kingston office for more than six years, where she has overseen the property management portfolio and developed strong connections across the local market.

Her transition from team member to business owner reflects the growing number of women progressing into leadership and ownership roles within the property industry.

Having worked closely with the business and its clients for several years, Phillips said purchasing the agency felt like a natural step.

‘Having worked within First National Kingston for several years, I have seen first-hand the strength of the network and the collaborative culture it fosters,’ she said.

‘The ability to maintain independence while benefiting from shared expertise and support made the decision a natural one.’

Ms Phillips began her career in real estate with an independent agency in the Huon Valley before joining LJ Hooker Kingborough and later First National Real Estate Kingston.

Over time she developed extensive experience across property management and client service, building the foundations for business ownership.

She said the profession provides meaningful career opportunities for women prepared to take on leadership roles.

‘Real estate offers extraordinary career pathways for women.

Many begin in property management or administration, but the industry also provides opportunities to lead teams and build businesses of our own,’ Ms Phillips said.

Looking ahead, Ms Phillips plans to expand the office’s presence across residential sales, property management and rural and lifestyle property, with a strong focus on service consistency, staff development and community engagement.

Her stated mission is to build a collaborative real estate business grounded in communication, trust and genuine relationships.

First National Real Estate CEO David Edwards said Ms Phillips’ progression from staff member to principal highlights the strength of the cooperative network and the opportunities it creates for capable professionals.

‘Nikita represents the next generation of business owners within our network,’ he said.

‘Her journey from team member to principal demonstrates the opportunities available within our industry for those with the capability and ambition to lead.’

Ms Phillips takes over the business from long-time principal Helen Lehane, who transitions from ownership while continuing her involvement with the agency after many years of service to the Kingston community.

Ms Phillips said continuity will remain a priority for clients and staff.

‘Our focus remains simple.

We put people first and work collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes for our clients and community,’ she said.

Her appointment comes as the property industry reflects on the contribution women make across sales, property management and business leadership during International Women’s Day.
