Not so spooky: Tim Burton lists English Georgian manor for $9.35m

The gothic filmmakerโ€™s Georgian estate on the River Thames is more fairytale than fright night.

Award-winning director Tim Burton has put his historic English country estate on the market for ยฃ4.5 million (approx. $9.35 million AUD).

Known for gothic fantasy films such as Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands, Burtonโ€™s home is anything but spooky.

Dubbed Mill House, the 18th-century Georgian residence sits on 17 acres along the River Thames in Sutton Courtenay, Oxfordshire.

The property, originally built in 1741 on the site of a paper mill, once belonged to former British Prime Minister Herbert Henry Asquith and later to Burtonโ€™s former partner, actress Helena Bonham Carter.

The Grade II-listed house features eight bedrooms, four bathrooms, and four reception rooms spread across nearly 550 square metres.

Period details such as plaster cornicing, dado rails, and ornate fireplace surrounds are complemented by Burtonโ€™s personal touches, including movie posters and memorabilia.

The estateโ€™s landscaped grounds include rose gardens, specimen trees, and several waterways that create three private islands linked by wooden and rope bridges.

Elle reports outdoor highlights include a croquet lawn, pergola-shaded terrace, and full riparian and fishing rights along the Thames.

For modern comforts, the property comes equipped with CCTV, an intercom, alarm systems monitored by Chubb, and commercial-grade high-speed broadband.

Despite its rural setting, Mill House is just 16 miles from Oxford Airport and within easy reach of London by car or train.

The estate is listed with Savills, with a guide price of ยฃ4.5 million ($9.35 million AUD).
