The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus sold his Hollywood castle to billionaire Jon Stryker for $8.9 million

New York-based billionaire architect Jon Stryker has just purchased a castle-like property in the Hollywood Hills for US$8.9 million from The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus and his actor-partner Diane Kruger.

Reedus and Kruger bought the stunning estate for US$8.5 million just last year, putting it on the market over the US summer period with a US$9.2 million asking price, according to Dirt.

As America’s 222nd wealthiest person, Jon Stryker nabbed a deal for the chateau, purchasing the property for US$8.9 million. Oddly enough, he already owns the neighbouring property, famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s Storer House.

Reedus and Kruger seemingly made little change to the home. While the 1920s castle architecture is a vintage-lover’s dream, the interior design is anything but dated.

Former owners Robert and Cortney Novogratz stripped out all remnants of the structure’s original style in 2015, in favour of a modern (and arguably generic) aesthetic.

The wide array of amenities include a custom kitchen with Carrara marble countertops and SubZero appliances, Steelcase doors throughout, and custom hardwood floors.

Also on hand are a combination family room/media lounge, a gym and a master suite with a private terrace overlooking the entire city.

The home also features a basement-level recording studio. While Mr Reedus has appeared in numerous music videos, such as Lady Gaga’s Judas, it appears as though the studio would have seen little use over the past year.

The hillside lot, which spans 0.42 acres, incorporates terraced gardens, with an outdoor kitchen, BBQ centre and a pizza oven.

There is plus a sports court, built-in children’s playset and a classically Old Hollywood oval swimming pool.

For privacy, the entire property is walled and surrounded by tall hedges, although it’s unclear whether the barrier connecting Mr Stryker’s two homes will stay in place.

Mr Stryker’s real estate portfolio extends far beyond the Hollywood Hills, according to Architectural Digest.

Along with the two adjacent homes, the billionaire heir of the medical supply company Stryker Corporation also reportedly owns a West Village mansion, among other New York properties, an estate in Aspen, and more in his home state of Michigan.

The most impressive of his extensive portfolio is the recently constructed US$50 million West Village mansion.

As for Reedus and Kruger, they also own numerous New York properties, including a US$11.8 million townhouse, again close by to Mr Stryker in the West Village neighbourhood, as well as a home outside of Atlanta.
