Stacie Sheldrick: No such thing as Sunday-itis

Years in the industry?
I have been in the industry ever since I was 19 years old. (18 years in the industry). When I was growing up, my family were close friends with the owners of a rural real estate agency, and I would always help out on school holidays. I guess you could say I have had a passion for real estate ever since.

What’s a special place in your local area?
I am very lucky to work right in the heart of the city, surrounded by cafes, restaurants, and shopping centres. It is nice to be able to go for a walk through the shops or sit down and enjoy a coffee out of the office.

Did you choose property management or did property management choose you?
I would have to say that I was always drawn to property management. I like being able to solve the problems. It gives me a great feeling of accomplishment.

Most memorable rental property?
I looked after a client for five years. I would make it a point to take them out for coffee once a month just to touch base. Along the way, I became a part of their family. They invited me to their daughter’s wedding – I was very touched.

Throughout my 18 years in real estate, I have accomplished many things, including winning property manager of the year within our local group. My favourite would have to be getting rental arrears down to zero in any business that I work for. I thrive on being excellent in my field and being a woman of her word.

What type of business do you focus on?
My role as deputy department manager sees me overseeing a team of property managers, but my absolute passion lies in new business. I love being a part of the owner’s investment journey, from start to finish.

What’s the most important part of your day?
The most important part of my day is seeing my beautiful children. I have a five-year-old daughter and six-year-old son. They are definitely my highlight of everyday.

I enjoy coming into the office every day. There is never Sunday-itis for me. My favourite part would have to be watching my amazing team thrive and accomplish their dreams.

Where would you like to be this time next year?
I have a five-to-ten year goal, and that would see me buying into the amazing LJ Hooker franchise that I work for.

I have been with this group for over 12 years and I can honestly say they are a part of my family. My short term goals would be becoming a full time BDM.

Challenge for the industry?
The biggest challenge in today’s industry would have to be the local economy and the declining interstate investors.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
The best piece of advice I have been given is never to take work home with you. It is sometimes very hard to switch off but the best advice I was given was to leave it all at the door.
