The first of a series of four industry roundtable meetings was convened yesterday in Melbourne as part of the National Revive 2017 Wellness and Wellbeing in Real Estate Project. The meeting series follows the collection of agent experience with wellness and wellbeing via a broad national survey on the topic.

An initiative of Jet Xavier, the Revive 2017 Project is seeking to understand, support and value the wellness and wellbeing of people working in the real estate industry.

“These roundtables will put wellness and wellbeing in the real estate industry officially on the map and create a much-needed platform for a conversation that needs to happen urgently right across the industry,” says Jet.

“I think that there is a tendency in the industry to frame a need for help at times as an individual weakness because there isn’t a bigger picture to connect to.”

The Melbourne Round Table, held in St Kilda, saw rising stars, veterans, a franchisee, a franchisor, high performing agents, as well as agents from large, medium and small business put competition aside for an afternoon to focus on issues of agent welfare.

Glen Coutinho, Director of RT Edgar Boroondara, joined deliberations, saying, “Today was a great experience and opens the door to assist agents facing the biggest life challenge. Life itself!”

Deliberations covered a range of research questions based on the preliminary results of the national survey, which yielded over 1,000 responses from agents around Australia.

“A shout out to Jet for facilitating and bringing awareness to an invisible challenge we face in our industry,” said Tim Longmore, Director and Auctioneer at Noel Jones Mitcham.

“Based on what we heard from agents yesterday, this is not only a widespread issue, it is also a complex issue with lots of discussion around where the responsibility lies for finding solutions and what practical solutions might be important moving forward,” said Jet.

“We want to give agents that bigger picture, to start a conversation about balance, to frame issues facing the industry and to bring together an expert network to look at solutions that will help agents be their best and have sustainable careers that include a wellness focus”.

The Round Table Series moves on to Adelaide today (Wednesday), hits Brisbane on Thursday and finishes on Friday in Sydney.

Deliberations from the Round Table series will be included in the Revive 2017 Wellness and Wellbeing Project White Paper, due for release in August, following the Revive 2017 summit.
