Rebecca Halton: Service with a smile

What started as a Saturday job at her mum’s franchise has turned into a 20-year career for LJ Hooker City Residential/Mandurah agent Rebecca Halton – and she’s never managed to wipe the smile off her face

On getting into real estate
I was looking for a Saturday job while studying and my mum owned a franchise. I loved it from then.

The happiest moment in my career
Competing in my first auctioneering competition.

The most memorable moment
A property on the Gold Coast, it was rockstar. It was listed for sale with a market leader who didn’t sell it. I was 20, new to sales and sold it after two weeks.

Best advice she’s received
Hard work beats talent. My mum used to tell me this all the time.

Biggest challenge
I think we will see high pressure on PM fees. Your agency needs to be gearing up for this and making the PM department the most efficient it has ever been and looking at fee for service and also other income streams.

Change for good?
I’d like to see a tougher criteria to get your full license, perhaps taking into account experience.

‘Elite’ agent means
A humble professional who always rises to the challenge and takes change on with a smile.
