The new Cyber campaign features mother-daughter business owners, Fran and Frankie, confronting one of Australia’s most common cyberattacks, phishing. Both recognise the warning signs in the other’s message, but feel pressured to act when the threat concerns them.

The exchange illustrates how a simple message can put pressure on any small business owner, regardless of how tech-savvy they think they are.

The campaign illustrates a scenario that is all too common within the small business community, such as a simple email or a text message.

Research commissioned by BizCover¹ in July found that 43% of Australian small business owners surveyed had encountered at least one suspicious cyber incident or scam attempt in the previous 12 months.

Yet 84% said they held no cyber insurance, have not checked their policy to see if includes cyber cover, are unsure what protection they hold, or did not realise that cyber insurance was an option for their business.

Kristjan Smarason, Head of Marketing at BizCover, says the campaign aims to easily explain how urgency and simple link exchanges can influence everyday business decisions.

“Scams are nothing new for small businesses. However, our new BizCover campaign aims to raise awareness on the importance of cyber cover. More than half the small businesses we surveyed think their business is not big enough or their data is not valuable,” says Kristjan.

Cyber risks appear to be underestimated by many small business owners, making them an easy target for cybercriminals.

“Having to stop trading puts a massive burden on small business owners, as their business is their livelihood. It’s important for them not only to take measures to protect themselves from attacks but also to be financially prepared if an attack happens,” says Kristjan.

The campaign is another in-house production led by the BizCover Marketing team.

¹ Methodology
An independent consumer research agency on behalf of BizCover conducted an online survey of n=545 Australian small business owners who currently have insurance. The survey was conducted between 1 and 13 of July 2026. Respondents were recruited nationally across all states and territories through an accredited online research access panel. The study was designed to capture the experiences and perspectives of this specialist audience.
