Jim Carrey slashes the price on his LA estate

Actor Jim Carrey has dropped the asking price for his sprawling Brentwood estate in Los Angeles, which has been on the market since earlier this year.

Initially listed at US$28.9 million, the asking price has been reduced by a whopping US$2.4 million, bringing the current price tag to US$26.5 million, according to Dirt.com.

The estate is hidden behind hedging and secured entry gates, and boasts a mainly one-story main house that includes six bedrooms and six bathrooms, as well as three powder rooms.

The property spans over 1178sq m and features a variety of eclectic decorative and architectural styles that are as idiosyncratic as its owner.

Numerous French doors allow for the interior living and entertaining spaces to flow out to a large courtyard patio, while the generous acreage offers numerous terraces, rolling lawns, a rock-lined pool with a waterfall, and a lighted tennis court.

The property also includes a pool house, a fenced vegetable garden, and a gazebo perched above the tennis court.

The estate has served as a creative sanctuary for Carrey for more than 30 years, but since he spends very little time there nowadays, he has decided to sell it so it can be a residential respite for someone else.

The property is listed through Janelle Friedman at Sothebyโ€™s International Realty โ€“ Santa Monica โ€“ Venice Brokerage.

The propertyโ€™s eclectic features are as varied as Carrey’s own films, with a wood-paneled bathroom in the primary suite that is a more baronial affair with a copper hooded fireplace and leaded glass windows, an Art Deco movie theater that displays a few costumes from some of his more iconic film roles, and a semi-circular breakfast room that looks out to flowering pear trees.

The homeโ€™s gym, home office, family room, and gourmet kitchen, which is equipped with an indoor barbecue, provide a luxurious living experience. The more rustic areas of the property include walking paths and an open-air pavilion for yoga and meditation.
