Hardeep Singh doesn’t have time to look back.
The Melbourne real estate agent is too busy selling property, posting the kind of results many agents can only aspire to.
Mr Singh worked with some of Australia’s biggest real estate franchises before he became the first agent to sign with real estate company Area Specialist, founded by Michael Choi in 2017.
The growth of Mr Singh’s business, based in the Casey region in Melbourne’s south-east, has been spectacular, building to a 2021-22 year where he wrote $2.9 million in gross commission as selling principal.
Agent Khaled Arabzadeh has joined Mr Singh’s team and wrote $1.2 million in GCI in only his second full year in real estate.
Mr Singh was named the top sales consultant in the Area Specialist network for 2021-22.
He doesn’t attribute his success to business smarts, although clearly no-one leads an agency to this sort of growth without sound business skills. He says it is all about hard work and delivering the best results for his clients.
“I don’t think of myself as the boss, I think of myself as a worker, although my duties are more than anyone else,” Mr Singh said.
Mr Singh believes real estate sales is a 24/7 business and he works seven days a week to ensure his clients receive the best possible service.
Mr Singh was born in India and raised in a hard-working farming family before moving to Australia in 2009.
“When I was in the village people would say, ‘He’s like a bull’,” Mr Singh said.
“That is my strength. I love challenges and if people say, ‘He can’t sell a property at that price’, I find a way.
“I want to show other people are wrong when they say, ‘It can’t be done’.”
Mr Singh said he learns from every piece of advice he receives but the best advice in his life came from his wife, who advised him to focus and do his best at one thing.
“I was jack of all trades and master of none,” he said.
“The one thing I do now is real estate and that has worked for me.”
Mr Singh opened an office in Berwick before a move to larger premises in Cranbourne. He now has a staff of 20 and has bought land for his plans to build a new office with 700sq m internal space.
His business now manages a rent roll of 535 properties, listing 259 properties in 2021-22.
Mr Choi said their partnership has helped each of their businesses expand rapidly.
“I love Hardeep’s drive and passion for continuous growth,” Mr Choi said.
“He is one of the hardest workers I know. He is extremely successful but somehow always manages to give everyone his time and treats you as a brother or sister.
“He has just won the top sales consultant award in our national network and doesn’t intend giving that title away any time soon.”
Mr Singh said Area Specialist provided everything he needed to run a successful business.
“They are continuously innovating and providing more value,” he said.
“I also like that they are a flat fee, which means the more I write the more I keep.”
But Mr Singh said a business that puts profit first is taking the wrong approach.
“First you have to love what you are doing. Money doesn’t matter to me, what matters to me is the trust of my customers. The satisfaction you feel inside, that’s what matters.”
