Cathy Baker – Building relationships over counting transactions

What’s your most memorable moment/career highlight for 2019?
My most memorable highlight from 2019 was being offered the Belle Property Franchise and Belle Property Escapes Franchise for the entire Central Coast Region.

This, coupled with getting to spend a week on Necker Island with Richard Branson at a leadership conference, changed my life.

What’s the biggest thing you’ve learnt this year?
The biggest thing I have learnt this year is that you can do anything you want to in this world if you put your mind to it. You can also create an amazing legacy to leave behind if you focus on how you can help others.

What do you do differently to others in the real estate industry?
My real estate business is purely based on relationships, not on transactions.

I value clients for life and have a 10-year lifestyle plan with my clients to look at how I can continue to add value to our relationship.

What’s the biggest myth people have about agents, and what needs to happen to change that perception?
The myth is that people believe most agents cannot be trusted and are only focused on the dollars they are making.

The only way to change this perception is to build a relationship business and walk the talk. So you create an attraction business based on relationships and premium results.

What would winning agent of the year mean to you?
I think winning agent of the year would allow clients that don’t know me to trust they are doing business with a professional who has been recognised in the industry.

It would also allow us to highlight that winning agent of the year is not solely about the commission we make, but more focused on the success of building a repeat clientele and strong business.

What are your goals professionally and personally for 2020?
I have so many goals on my vision board it’s not funny. Continuing to grow my business with new services and become the most relevant and respected brand on the Central Coast is number one.

Fundraising to build a refuge on the British Virgin Islands is another, as is developing new scholarship programmes, getting private boat charters, helicopter pilots and other services into our holiday business.

I also want to learn from others who have achieved what I am hoping to and have plenty of fun along the way.
