3 keys to SUPERIOR consistency for real estate agents

Jet Xavier looks at three keys to becoming more consistent as an agent, in order to achieve the success you deserve.

“In essence, if we want to direct our lives, we must take control of our consistent actions. It’s not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives, but what we do consistently.”
Anthony Robbins

Consistency is KING. It is the one key thing that separates great agents from the rest. Consistency gets results. Your consistency in prospecting, vendor/buyer management, marketing, training, health, attitude, the right mindset and enthusiasm will determine how successful you become as an agent.

The ‘Purpose and Passion’ principle

“All successful people are big dreamers. They imagine what their future could be; ideal in every respect, then they work every day toward their distant vision and that goal and purpose.” Brian Tracey

Most agents have fallen into real estate with a ‘let’s see how it goes approach” or it was a good idea at the time, or I am good with people so I would make a great agent. For others it was a family business decision or they have fell in love with the dream of the car, the suit and the big commissions. Whatever the reason, it is evident for some that the dream is not the reality and it has become a challenging, confronting and stressful pressured career with limited success and a group certificate that does not reflect their true potential. Agents have not calculated what it will be like, what sacrifices need to be made or more importantly whether or not this aligns with who they are and what they want out of life. It is hard to turn up every day without passion and purpose in what you do. You need to ask the questions why are you doing what you are doing, what do you want to get out of it, where do you want to be in 1, 3, 5, 10 years and more importantly do you really love the real estate sales game and are you prepared to do what it takes to make it. Having passion and purpose about what you do in your career is essential for consistency in everything you do. It provides the motivation, the discipline and the attitude to turn up every day and engage in consistent activity that produces superior results. You need to love what you do or you will never be successful.

The Organisational Focus Principle

We are what we repeatedly do, excellence then is not an act but a habit. Aristotle

To be consistent you need to create focus that is unwavering and laser sharp. Otherwise you will always get distracted, procrastinate and be off track. One of the best ways to create focus is to get organised and create structure. Structure through being organised gives you a platform to create routine and this in turn gives you focus. This focus then produces high levels of consistency. Studies by David Rock the co- founder of the NeuroLeadership Institute and author of Your Brain at Work show that most of us only truly focus 6 hours per week, so it easy to see why we can become inconsistent. The great thing is that you can actually train your brain to make you focus better. Simply set aside 5 mins a day to sit quietly and meditate by just closing your eyes and focusing only on your breath going in and out your nose. This practice actually conditions the brain so that enables you to focus better on tasks. Organisation = Structure = Routine = Focus = Consistency.

The Power of Perception principle

“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough” Oprah Winfrey

The way you think things are impacts your career more than the way things are. When it comes to consistency it is imperative that your mind has the ability to perceive things in the right way. One agent might see losing a listing as the end of the world, whilst another sees it as an opportunity to get a better one. Some agents see rejection as a demoralising soul destroying aspect of their tasks, whilst others see it as a step closer to the next sale. Many agents look at a flat market and talk gloom and doom, while other agents clap their hands and get excited and prospect harder because they know there is more opportunity because the gloom and doom agent is not going to do anything at all. The perspective you have drives drive your consistency. The quickest way to improve your perspective is to always see what is good about a situation despite what you think about it. Remember it is far easier to change your mind than it is your external circumstances. As the famous Monty Python songs goes.. “Always look on the bright side of life”

Remember what you do every day matters more then what you do once in a while.
