We Are Real Estate

Rob Fearnley: Beyond the comfort zone

McGrath’s Rob Fearnley loves his home in Alexandria. In fact, purchasing it is his most memorable real estate moment. Still, he reckons getting out of town was the best move he ever made as a young professional

On getting into real estate
Real estate chose me.

The happiest moment in my career
In 2014, I was working interstate for 18 months in my first management role. I learnt so much about people management but also loved being in a new city. It was a win-win and something I highly recommend to young professionals who are looking to get into management. Do what you can to get out of your comfort zone.

Best advice he’s received
Always set goals, but then have laser focus on the process around how to get there, don’t just focus on the goal.

Biggest challenge
This is twofold. Firstly, it’s finding the right technology that will enhance the customer experience. And secondly, bringing your teams along on this change journey we are all embarking on.

Change for good?
I would love to see more agencies understand the full customer experience regardless of whether their client is a landlord, vendor, tenant or buyer. Clients’ needs are always changing and we must get better as an industry in listening to them and delivering on it.
