Red Hot Chili Peppers star ‘Flea’ selling Aussie home

Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist and songwriter Flea is selling his Australian beachside retreat, where the band wrote some of their best-selling music.

Located on the NSW south coast in Congo, the property is just minutes from the beach and has a price guide of about $3 million, according to realestate.com.au.

Flea, whose real name is Michael Balzary, has owned the quirky five-bedroom, two-storey home for nearly 30 years and is reluctantly putting it on the market through local agent James Hamilton from LJ Hooker Moruya

The auction, to be held on February 11, will coincide with the band’s Australian tour, which starts in Brisbane on January 29.

Described by Mr Hamilton as having “a rock-star vibe” and a “relaxed holiday feeling”, the home boasts a contemporary Californian design with bi-fold doors that open to an alfresco terrace with views across the property.

The master retreat includes a luxe ensuite with a mosaic-tiled plunge bath, and the home also has an open fireplace with stone detailing and a multipurpose sports court.

โ€œFlea has written a lot of music at the property and has had band members jamming in what was the music room downstairs,โ€ Mr Hamilton told realestate.com.au.

In addition to serving as the creative setting for some of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ most successful music, the property is also located near the popular Bingi Dreaming track, which runs along the clifftops to Tuross Head.

Congo is known for its beautiful, pristine coastline and has become a sought-after destination for buyers.

While it may be a difficult decision for Flea to part with the home, he will still retain some interest in the local area.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers, formed in 1983, have sold over 120 million records worldwide and are considered one of the best-selling bands of all time.

Flea, who was born in Melbourne in 1962, spent part of his childhood in Australia before moving to California in his later teens and meeting Chili Peppers vocalist Anthony Kiedis.
