Rapper Drake lists estate for $88 million just a year after buying it

Canadian rapper Drake has put his palatial estate in the mountains above Beverly Hills on the market for US$88 million, just a year after purchasing the property for US$75 million.

The resort-style paradise was first built in the late 1990s and features almost 2322sq m of living space.

It was originally designed by the prolific KAA Design Group for GUESS co-founder Armand Marciano, with Mediterranean-themed interiors that were later renovated to contemporary spaces by English pop star Robbie Williams, who sold the property to Drake last year, according to dirt.com.

The house is accessed via gates and a long driveway, and dozens of mature olive trees and ancient oaks frame stunning views of the canyon, city and ocean.

Inside, the neutral interiors are minimally designed with a double-height foyer, a living room with two fireplaces, wine cellar, gym, elevator, a kitchen with dual islands and an upstairs master retreat with a private view balcony and a salon-style bathroom.

The estate also boasts a staff wing, separate guesthouse, and an 11-car garage, plus a vast motorcourt with parking for dozens more.

However, it’s the sprawling grounds and views that steal the real estate show, featuring one of the biggest lawn areas in Beverly Hills, a full-size tennis court, an outdoor kitchen and a “hidden” orchard.

The compound spans almost 20 acres, though a majority of that land is rugged hillside.

It’s unclear where Drake is moving to, but he still spends a significant amount of time in his Toronto hometown, where he owns a 4645sq m monster mansion in the affluent Bridle Path neighbourhood.

The property is jointly listed by Branden and Rayni Williams of The Beverly Hills Estates and Marc Bretter of Maywood Property Group.

The house is secluded high in the hills above Benedict Canyon, at the end of a little-known cul-de-sac. The interiors, including the custom woodwork and acres of marble finishes, are bespoke and likely cost a fortune to install.
