Olivia Wilde, the renowned actress and director, has taken a significant step forward in her post-breakup life, purchasing a stunning hilltop estate in Studio City, Los Angeles, for nearly $6 million.
The new property marks a notable upgrade from her previous multimillion-dollar home in Silver Lake, California.
The recently acquired estate boasts a superb design pedigree and offers breathtaking views of the serene San Fernando Valley basin.
Concealed from public view behind imposing gates and a long driveway, the single-storey ranch house originally dates back to the 1940s, according to Dirt.com.
However, over the years, it underwent various unfortunate remodels and expansions.
In the mid-2000s, the property was acquired by John Dolan, a commercial director, and his wife, pastry chef Sarah Lambert, who raised their family there.
The transformation of the house was no ordinary feat, as it required a complete overhaul.
Acclaimed architect Barbara Bestor, based in Silver Lake, took charge of the project, completely redesigning the structure.
The extensive renovation involved stripping the house down to its studs and rebuilding it as a bright and airy contemporary ranch.
Bestor is widely recognised for her exceptional work on the iconic Silvertop residence designed by John Lautner.
With the completion of the project, the estate now spans a spacious 343sq m, featuring four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms.
The public areas of the house are harmoniously integrated, with a great room that seamlessly connects the living and dining rooms to the kitchen.
The kitchen itself is equipped with high-end Gaggenau appliances and adorned with soapstone countertops. Many of the bespoke cabinets and consoles in the home were custom-designed by Bestor, who incorporated intricate Douglas fir detailing into the pieces.
A hallmark of the property’s design is the abundant use of glassy Fleetwood pocket doors throughout.
These sliding doors create a seamless transition between the indoors and outdoors, allowing residents to enjoy the picturesque surroundings from within the house.
Moreover, the estate features an expansive backyard with a lush, sprawling grassy lawn and a newly refurbished swimming pool and spa.
For those who appreciate outdoor living, there is a poolside cabana, an outdoor fireplace, and lush gardens thoughtfully designed by the renowned landscape architect Judy Kameon.
Additionally, the property includes a detached guesthouse complete with its own kitchenette, providing a private space for visitors.
