Mariah Carey has listed her Tribeca penthouse for US$27 million (approximately AUD$43 million), marking the first time the sprawling property has been available since she purchased it in 1999.
The five-time Grammy winner assembled the 12,728-square-foot triplex at 90 Franklin Street by combining two separate units – a US$5.5 million duplex penthouse and a US$3.5 million full-floor apartment directly below – for a total of approximately US$9 million.
Spanning three floors of the former Corn Exchange Bank building, the residence commands 360-degree views from the Hudson River to the Manhattan skyline, with 1,100 square feet of private outdoor space across the 16th, 17th and 18th levels.

The property’s interiors were designed by the late Mario Buatta, known as the “Prince of Chintz,” who transformed the space into an art deco fantasy laden with butterfly motifs – Mariah’s signature symbol.
“We put them wherever we could,” Mario told Architectural Digest. “There are butterfly handles on the cabinets in the bedroom, and butterflies are woven into the bed hangings. They’re even on the soap in the bath and on the tiles in the kitchen.”

The design features silver leaf doors, limestone floors inlaid with bronze, lacquered peach walls, and a 38-foot primary bathroom.
The NY Post reported the media room includes an aquarium and murals designed to evoke an underwater cinema. Marilyn Monroe’s white baby grand piano once occupied the main living area.

The penthouse gained pop culture fame when it was featured in a 2002 episode of MTV’s Cribs. More recently, in November 2022, she opened the home for a Christmas promotion with Booking.com.
The listing, held by Emily Beare of Core, describes the property as offering “scale, light and flexibility” with the option to use floors independently or reimagine the space as a development opportunity.
