Kurt Cobain’s daughter sells Hollywood home for small profit

The daughter of late music icon Kurt Cobain has sold her vintage Hollywood Hills villa for a modest profit less than two years after purchasing the property.

Frances Bean Cobain, who is the daughter of Hole front woman Courtney Love and Nirvana’s former front man Kurt Cobain, purchased the home in 2020 for US$1.996 million.

The Dirt is reporting it has now sold for US$2.29 million after initially being listed last year for US$2.5 million.

They state the sale was prompted by the fact Frances Cobain recently moved in with professional skateboarder Riley Hawk.

If that name rings a bell, it’s because he is the son of skateboarding legend Tony “Birdman” Hawk.

Built in 1926, the property is Spanish in style and is located in the secluded Hollywood Hills area of Hollywood Knoll.

It is set on a 1100sq m block and includes a total of four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, including an attached guest residence with separate entrance and its own kitchen.

In her time living there, Frances Cobain has made a few minor changes to the property, such as replacing some tiles, but otherwise left the vintage villa untouched.

Flooded with natural light, the home’s original features include archways and white ceilings and walls, punctuated by dark, exposed ceiling beams.

French windows frame the view, while French doors lead to the terraced garden and numerous outdoor entertaining spaces.

The property is set into the side of a hill and spans three levels in total.

As the daughter of Grunge-era music royalty, Frances Cobain controls the publicity rights to her father’s name and image.

She has also forged her own career as a visual artist and occasional model.

In the past, she also owned another vintage Spanish-style home in the foothills just above Hollywood, with the Dirt reporting she paid $1.825 million for her former property in 2011, the year after she inherited part of her father’s estate.

She sold that home in 2018 for $2.331 million.

The sale of her most recent home was handled by Laura Kay at Compass.
