Joan Rivers’ former NYC penthouse re-listed with a US$10M price cut

The iconic penthouse that the late comedian Joan Rivers called home for nearly three decades is back on the market, now listed for USD $28 million (approximately AUD $43 million).

That’s a significant $10 million (AUD $15 million) reduction from its original 2021 asking price of $38 million (AUD $58 million).

This three-level residence, located at 1 East 62nd Street in Manhattan, offers breathtaking views, historic elegance, and a storied past.

Originally purchased by Rivers in 1988 following the death of her husband Edgar Rosenberg, the neo-French Classical penthouse sits atop a limestone mansion designed by renowned architect Horace Trumbauer.

During her 28 years in the home, Rivers filled the space with antique furnishings, ornate Versailles-inspired decor.

The penthouse spans 433 square metres and features five bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms, a corner library, and a formal dining room adorned with 18th-century French panels.

The grand ballroom, with 7-metre ceilings, original parquet-de-Versailles flooring, and wood-burning fireplace, remains a focal point. The primary suite boasts a south-facing terrace with views of nearby Central Park.

After Rivers’ death in 2014, the property was sold to Saudi Prince Muhammad bin Faud for USD $28 million (AUD $43 million). The penthouse’s current listing, managed by Compass agents Zina Raslan and Carl Gambino.
