Buxton director presented with company’s highest accolade

Amongst the team at Buxton, no honour is met with higher esteem than the J.R. Buxton Award, fondly named after one of the company’s founders, John Robert Buxton.

Previously awarded only twice in the company’s 157-year history, Adam Gillon, Director of Buxton Hampton East, was the third recipient, presented with the accolade at this month’s Buxton Annual Awards night.

Coming from a long family line of real estate professionals, including his great-great-grandfather, J.R. Buxton himself, Mr Gillon has been with the business for 20 years. In this time he has shared his deep understanding of the industry based on his wide-ranging experience, including dominance in residential sales across his core suburbs, commercial sales and development projects.

It is, however, not simply Mr Gillon’s strong real estate capabilities that saw him awarded the prestigious J.R. Buxton Award, but rather a combination of his unyielding commitment to success and his cultural contribution in helping Buxton agents in need of support. A leader, mentor and supporter to many in the business, he gives his time selflessly – a quality his fellow Buxton directors say is unrivalled.

According to Director of Buxton Bentleigh Craig Williamson, who presented the award, Mr Gillon is the whole package.

“Being presented this award is a reflection of Adam’s greater value and that is hard to measure. His influence on the Buxton business is like no other.

“We didn’t present him with this accolade because he brings in a certain number of listings or because he has completed thousands of auctions; Adam guides the business with a sense of camaraderie. As a friend and a human, he is a phenomenal person who is incredibly generous and lives an inspired life,” said Mr Williamson.

Easygoing in his approach which makes him a favourite with buyers, vendors and colleagues alike, Mr Gillon’s humility is evident when asked what the award meant to him.

“I did not know this was coming my way at all. It was such a nice surprise, particularly to be acknowledged by my peers for my contribution away from just the business side of real estate.

“Coming from the Buxton family, it really is such an honour to receive this award that is named after my great-great-grandfather. I know my grandmother would be very proud,” said Mr Gillon.

Highlighting the exclusivity of the award, CEO of Buxton Nathan Jones expressed that this honour is not handed out lightly.

“Adam now joins Bert Stewart from Brighton (2004) and Bill Jowett from Sandringham (2015), who have previously been celebrated with the award. Each has ultimately won it for differing reasons; however, at the core, these individuals have gone above and beyond for the benefit of everyone at Buxton over an extended period of time.

“It was a privilege to share that moment with Adam and it was an especially touching to have his long-time friend and colleague, Craig Williamson, present the award, sharing some of his personal experiences with Adam over the journey.”
