James Cameron’s iconic Santa Barbara compound, a sprawling 102-acre property with stunning ocean views, has recently been listed for sale in the prestigious Hollister Ranch enclave.
The gated residential and agricultural community along the scenic Gaviota coastline is now asking a substantial $33 million for the luxurious estate, according to Dirt.com.
Market watchers were first alerted to the availability of this unique property through a report in The Wall Street Journal.
Emily Kellenberger of Village Properties/Forbes Global Properties, along with Jeff Kruthers of Hollister Ranch Realty, holds the listing.
Kellenberger describes the compound as an unparalleled opportunity to acquire an exceptional ocean-view property and join the esteemed Hollister Ranch community, making it a once-in-a-lifetime investment for environmentally conscious buyers seeking a coastal oasis in California.
Public records indicate that Cameron and his wife, Suzy Amis Cameron, purchased the estate in the late 1990s for just over $4.3 million.
The centrepiece of the property is an impressive 743sq m main house, featuring five bedrooms and seven bathrooms.
Additionally, there are several auxiliary buildings on the grounds, all situated just minutes away from Drake’s Beach and miles of preserved shoreline.
The main residence, constructed over three decades ago, underwent extensive renovations during the couple’s ownership.
The architectural marvel boasts wood-and-glass design elements, with a fireside great room offering breathtaking ocean vistas through expansive glass walls.
Adjacent to the great room is a dining area that connects to the eat-in kitchen, featuring custom lighting, cabinetry, and high-end Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances.
Among the property’s many amenities are a lavish master retreat, dual offices, a movie theatre, game room, and gym.
Outdoors, the meticulously landscaped grounds feature a lagoon-style pool and spa, tennis court, and organic gardens.
The estate also includes a 185sq m guesthouse, a 2229sq m barn, and a helipad.
Notably, the property operates off-the-grid, utilising solar and wind power, and benefits from two wells for irrigation and drinking water.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Cameron and his wife decided to sell the compound due to their extensive commitments in various locations.
The couple owns approximately 5000 acres of land in New Zealand and 10,000 acres in Saskatchewan, Canada, where they are actively developing new hybrid crops.
They also spend time in Los Angeles, near Cameron’s studio in Manhattan Beach, and in Austin, Texas, where he occasionally films. Additionally, they maintain a residence in Crested Butte, Colorado.
