Popular Ashfield agent bolsters growing independent agency

Ashfield’s number one agent, as voted by vendors, has embraced the new year by joining rapidly expanding Inner West agency, Hudson McHugh. 

Jackie Wang has accumulated over 200 five-star reviews on RateMyAgent and brings nine years of experience, as well as fluency in Cantonese, Mandarin, Japanese and English, to the team of 33 at Hudson McHugh.

Hudson McHugh has risen to prominence across the Inner West since its inception in 2015. With a vision of creating a brand bigger than just two individuals, top agents James Price and David Eastway launched the agency using their mothers’ maiden names. T

he agency sold 300 homes in 2022 through its two locations: the original site at the heritage post office in Leichhardt and a more recent expansion into Summer Hill when they merged with Raine & Horne.

Jackie’s first sale nine years ago is testament to her ability to do a deal with minimum fuss. With no profile or experience, she knocked on the doors of Ashfield residents whereby she met an elderly lady who complained that her elevated house was a poor match for her ailing mobility.

Jackie set about selling the dwelling so the owner could relocate to a city apartment closer to theatres, galleries and the harbour. The vendor named her dream price, and Jackie achieved it in a matter of days without any marketing. 

Jackie made headlines in 2020 when she sold an unrenovated, older, ground floor Ashfield unit for over $1 million.

She sold an apartment in Canterbury in a single day, and another house in four days after a three-month contract with the prior agent had expired, which built a strong relationship with the vendor who gave her another house to sell.

She also sold a three-bed Ashfield townhouse for a suburb record of $1.85 million after the first open.

When asked about her point of difference in the market, Jackie says it’s her feminine approach, and a willingness to understand her vendor’s goal before helping them achieve it. 

“Women really look after the whole process, supporting and advising clients, even buying for them,” she said.

It’s innate to make people comfortable and make it a very straightforward process. Vendors value genuine commitments, particularly if they have experienced other agents promising the world at the listing presentation before failing to deliver.

“Plus, being Asian and multilingual, there’s no communication barrier for my clients and the buyers.

“My career experience in tax, accounting, marketing, and hospitality has provided me with a broad skill base that gives me the ability to have in depth conversation; and connect with people.” 

Jackie holds two bachelor degrees in marketing, and Japanese studies as well as tertiary qualifications in accounting. Prior to real estate she worked for HSBC in finance and has even run her own café in Sydney.
