Feature Interview: Ric Serrao with Claudio Encina

In our latest feature interview from the AREC2017 Elite Agent Studio, Claudio Encina talks to Ric Serrao about his AREC keynote, advice for new real estate agents, and how to remain at the top of the game.

Transcript:

Claudio Encina: I’m sitting next to Ric Serrao. He’s been a high performing agent in the eastern suburbs of Sydney for a long, long time. Ric, what can we expect tomorrow from your presentation?

Ric Serrao: I think I’m just trying to keep it simple. A lot has already been talked about today. I’m just trying to challenge how people think about their work patterns. I might talk about how I run around in a scooter all day and adopt Siri, my remote access in my iPad. So, just challenging people to think outside the square a little bit.

Claudio: What have you taken from the speakers this morning, including Bob Wolff? Some of the messages for you?

Ric: I’ve been in this industry for a little while now, and we’re always learning. The thing that stands out for me is ‘top-of-mind awareness’ of things you stop doing, which is what takes you to the next level.

Claudio: How does someone like you continue to stay on top of your game?

Ric: I genuinely love what I do and I care about people. A lot of my clients were – a lot of my friends rather – were originally clients.

Claudio: If you could give advice to someone who was starting new in real estate today, what advice would you give them today?

Ric: Find a mentor, stay away from negative people. Find a mentor that will help you and there’s a lot of people that will give up their time.
And I know that I do and many other agents do as well. Find a mentor, train, train, train, train, train. But don’t train when you go into an appraisal and a listing. That’s very, very expensive exercise.

So it’s a little bit like doing this talk. I’m not a public speaker and I know I’m gonna get tongue tied and I’m gonna slip up but I’ve practised.

So, I think training is imperative. Things like AREC are a must, because it blows your brain as to things that are going on. Look at technology and where it is and where you think it might be going. I think real estate today versus real estate in 10 years, or even five years, is going to be very different. I mean, realestate.com.au, they’ve got holograms going. I mean, hello!

Claudio: I know, amazing! Look Ric, we really appreciate your time here on the couch at Elite Agent Magazine 2017 and all I can say to you, mate, is you’re a pro doing the interviews, I’m sure you’re going to crush it out there tomorrow on the stage.

Ric: Thanks, Claudio. Thanks very much. Appreciate it.
