Surry Hills is the world’s 11th most Instagrammable neighbourhood

With a host of cool cafes, five-star dining, a thriving bar scene and culture hubs, Surry Hills is certainly one of the Harbour City’s coolest neighbourhoods and is now officially one of the world’s most Instagramable.

Surry Hills was ranked 11th on a list of the world’s 50 most Instagrammable neighbourhoods compiled by Savoystewart.co.uk.

The trendy inner-west Melbourne suburb of Yarraville was ranked 19th.

Savoystewart.co.uk looked at the number of hashtags a location had received to compile the list with Surry Hills getting 599,156 Instagram hashtags while Yarraville had 267,002.

Wynwood in Miami, Florida, was crowned the most Instagrammable neighbourhood in the world, with more than 5.2 million photos tagged.

Wynwood is famous for its trendy street art, which has turned into an outdoor museum, where graffiti and street artists have displayed their work for all to see along with a range of clothing stores, bistros and late-night life that make it attractive as an entertainment paradise to young people.

Coming in second was Shinjuku, Tokyo with more than 2.9 million hashtags on Instagram.

When you scroll through the Shinjuku tags on the social media platform, you are greeted with images of a bustling cityscape full of bright neon skyscrapers. 

Among all the tall buildings, clubs and bustling shopping malls across Shinjuku, you can also find The National Stadium, a multi-purpose stadium used for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. 

Astoria in Queens, New York, is in third place with more than two million photos tagged. 

Astoria is known for its range of traditional multicultural cuisines as well as more modern fusion restaurants, meaning it is a paradise for foodies.
