Superstar Rihanna has splashed out US$21 million on a 40th-floor Los Angeles penthouse in the prestigious, paparazzi-proof, 42-storey The Century condominium building.
According to TopTenRealEstateDeals, the four-bedroom, 863sq m condo was previously owned by Friends actor Matthew Perry, who sold it in 2021 for US$21.6 million.
Rihanna, who has been a resident of The Century since 2014 in a smaller unit, will now gain one more bedroom, three more bathrooms, and almost 550sq m of additional space with her new, higher floor plan.
The spacious home boasts breathtaking panoramic views over Los Angeles, including the city, ocean, and mountains, which are visually stunning during the day and sparkle with lights at night.
With an enormous living room with two fireplaces and a huge master suite with multiple living spaces, the property also has four bedrooms and eight bathrooms, a game room, a home theatre, a chef’s kitchen with island seating as well as a table for casual dining, and a separate dining room with glass walls highlighting the views.

The Century was designed by Robert A. M. Stern Architects in 2010 and has been a celebrity hotspot ever since, with owners including Candy Spelling, widow of filmmaker Aaron Spelling, who bought the top two floors, Paula Abdul, and Elizabeth Berkley.
Other famous owners of the building include Denzel Washington, a Saudi princess, and a Russian billionaire.
The building has four acres of lush private gardens, a 22m swimming pool, a screening room, yoga and pilates studios, and a wine-storage facility.
Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing in the hit TV show Friends, bought the entire 40th floor in 2017, and brought in his team of architect Scott Joyce and interior designer LM Paganoe to do significant upgrades, and listed it in 2019 for US$35 million.
Perry advertised the condo as his ‘Mansion in the Sky’ and eventually reduced the price to $23 million before selling it in 2021 to Nick Molnar, the Aussie co-founder of Afterpay.
Molnar listed the apartment in late 2022 for US$28 million, making the Perry and Molnar sales two of the most expensive condo transactions in Los Angeles residential sales history.
Both Rihanna and Perry are part of Hollywood’s celebrity home-lovers clan.
Rihanna has owned or rented at least a dozen homes, including two Beverly Hills homes that she is currently renting out.
In addition to The Century condo, Perry has owned luxury homes in Pacific Palisades and a Malibu Beach home he sold in 2021 for US$13.1 million.
