Ricky Ponting sells his Brighton mansion

Former Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting and his wife Rianna have recently finalised the sale of their magnificent beachside property in Brighton.

The luxurious trophy home, which dates back to the 1920s, was listed on the market in May and reportedly sold within the price range of $14.8 million to $16 million, according to realestate.com.au.

The former top batsman had enlisted the services of Mike Gibson, from Forbes Global, and Andrew Smith, from BuyerX, to secure the successful sale.

PropTrack records indicate that the Pontings acquired the seven-bedroom Brighton home for $9.25 million in 2013, according to realestate.com.au.

The Pontings told AFR they were delighted with the sale.

“We’re thrilled with the sale of our house, especially to such a lovely family,” they said.

“It’s a beautiful family home, and we hope they love living here as much as we do.”

The couple’s recent purchase of a $20 million property in Toorak, aimed at being closer to their children’s sporting activities, coincided with the Brighton property’s sale.

The grandeur and historic allure of Ponting’s former Brighton residence set it apart as one of the most prominent properties in the neighbourhood.

Set on a vast 1900sq m block, the expansive home boasts seven bedrooms, an elaborate foyer, elegant formal rooms, a timber-panelled study, a modern kitchen with a butler’s pantry, and a spacious home cinema.

Outside, the property offers a full-sized tennis court, a pool, and a private laneway leading to the beach.

Despite the downsizing move by millionaire standards, as the Toorak property is smaller than their previous residence, the Pontings continue to own a luxurious weekender in Portsea, which they acquired in 2019 for $3.51 million.
