Richard Simpson elected REIV President for 2017-18

A fifth generation real estate agent, Mr Simpson has been heavily involved with the REIV over many years, including serving as Senior Vice President on the previous Board.

He has also provided extensive input to a number of Institute committees, serving as Commercial & Industrial Chapter Chair for three years and Members Council Chair for two years.

Mr Simpson is a partner in the family business W.B. Simpson & Son, located in North Melbourne with a history dating back over 145 years and both his father and grandfather are former Presidents of the REIV.

Prior to entering real estate, Mr Simpson was a Chartered Accountant with KPMG where he specialised in the banking, finance and property development sectors. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Melbourne University as well as a Bachelor of Business (Property) from RMIT, where he majored in property valuations.

He said it was an honor to lead the Institute through what is an undoubtedly challenging period for the industry.

โ€œVictoria is currently in the midst of the largest review of property legislation in the stateโ€™s history, with significant reform of the Residential Tenancies Act,โ€ Mr Simpson said.

Two new office bearers have also been elected to office for 2017-18 โ€“ Ms Robyn Waters (Senior Vice President) and Ms Leah Calnan (Vice President).

Mr Simpson also welcomed new REIV Directors Mr Adam Docking, Mr Frank Hellier and Ms Lee Maher, who commenced their term in October 2017.
