REIV auction competitions to go ahead, despite lockdown

It takes more than a pesky pandemic and Stage 4 lockdowns to stop the REIV Auction Competitions from proceeding in 2020.

This year, Victorian auctioneers will battle it out online, an apt representation of how the industry has operated throughout the year.

“The Victorian Real Estate sector revealed its strength and resilience throughout this COVID effected year,” explained REIV President Leah Calnan.

“Real estate was presented with the stark option to adapt or perish; this led to members embracing technology with enthusiasm and finding innovative ways to deliver results for clients.”

The REIV Seniors competition gets underway on Tuesday, October 13, whilst the Novices will battle it out on the following Tuesday, October 20.

Both competitions will be closed online meetings, with a recording of the auction calls available for viewing upon completion.

“Having the REIV Auctioneering Competition as an online event pays tribute to the innovation and adaptability that was demonstrated by Victorian Real Estate in 2020,” REIV CEO Gil King added.

“The REIV Auctioneering Competitions have a history of recognising some of the best auctioneers in the state. The list of past winners is a testament to the significance of this platform.”

As the REIV explains: “Auctions can be chaotic and exhilarating; a skilled and experienced auctioneer can harness the energy of a crowd and obtain the best result for a seller”.

“Keeping track of bidders, quick number calculations, energising the crowd while maintaining order, are just some of the challenges for an auctioneer.”
