A Manhattan apartment once owned by David Bowie has returned to market with an asking price of US$4.95 million (approximately A$7.7 million).

The late musician shared the three-bedroom residence at the JW Marriott Essex House with his wife, supermodel Iman, from 1992 until 2002.

Located on Central Park South, the 174-square-metre apartment occupies the ninth floor of the art deco building, which was constructed in 1929 and later partly converted to condominiums.

The property features a living room with a 12-metre window overlooking Central Park, while one of the three bedrooms shares the same park-facing exposure.

A central gallery provides space for entertaining or displaying art, according to listing agent Cristina Soares Hungria Paschoal of Sotheby’s International Realty.

According to Mansion Global, the apartment has changed hands several times since the Bowies sold.

It last traded in 2022 at the same US$4.95 million price point now being sought by the current owner, a family trust.

The property was previously listed in 2017 at US$6.495 million – that offering reportedly included David’s piano, though the instrument does not appear to be part of the current sale.

The owner has used the apartment as a rental in recent years, most recently asking US$32,500 per month.

David, who was born in Brixton, South London, and died in 2016, also owned a larger residence in downtown Manhattan.
