Top performer, Marcus Washington, is the latest big name to join the Area Specialist real estate network.
Area Specialist founder Michael Choi said having one of the industry’s best joining the system was a huge win.
“He is very well known in the industry, especially in the Harcourts network, and Harcourts is one of the largest franchise groups in the country,” Mr Choi said.
“For him to see the value that Area Specialist brings speaks volumes.”
Mr Washington said he was drawn to the clean, fresh brand, and the chance to be in the driver’s seat when it came to the future of his career.
“I believe that real estate is changing and Area Specialist is changing the way agents work,” Mr Washington said.
Mr Washington said he considered venturing out entirely on his own, as well as other mobile agencies and franchises, but felt Area Specialist offered more potential for growth.
“I believe that this company can pivot, change, and grow, which is attractive,” he said.
While he acknowledged the usual fears which came with major change, such as fear of the unknown and understanding how to run a business, Mr Washington believes Area Specialist provides exceptional support to overcome that.
Mr Choi said it was becoming increasingly common for top performing agents to want to go out on their own.
“The trouble is, there’s just so much to do,” he said.
“There’s a silly amount to do, and while doing all of those things means you get to keep 100 per cent of your commission, you’re so bogged down and so busy that often GCI drops as a result.
“With the Area Specialist system and support, you won’t drop your listings or market share, in fact, they should increase. All while you keep 100 per cent of your hard earned commission.”

But Mr Choi said some agents were still a little bit cautious due to underlying fear of the unknown.
“People will be watching Marcus, they’ll see that he’ll do well, and because of that, I expect we’ll see more agents joining us,” he said.
