Stevie Wonder’s Calabasas home on the market for US$15 Million

The modern Mediterranean-style Calabasas estate once shared by music legend Stevie Wonder and his former wife, clothing designer Kai Milla-Morris, has been listed for sale at $15 million (approx. A$22.8 million).

Milla-Morris, who has lived in the gated-community home for over two decades, says she’s ready to move on now that their two sons, Kailand and Mandla, are grown.

“It’s very big,” she told the WSJ. “I feel like this is the right time to venture out into a new space.”

The property will also be available to rent for $65,000 a month (approx. A$99,000).

Wonder purchased the six-bedroom, 11,120-square-foot home as a surprise for Milla-Morris around 25 years ago and she explains that it was the acoustics of the home first captivated Wonder.

“Steve, even the incredible musician as he is, he practiced every single day,” Milla-Morris said.

Music was a constant in the household, with their children also learning to play piano. “The family was always having great jam sessions.”

A music area just off the living room houses Wonder’s rare Bösendorfer piano—though that particular instrument is not included in the sale.

Originally purchased for $2.85 million (approx. A$4.34 million) in 2000, the home has undergone substantial updates.

During the pandemic, Milla-Morris invested at least $3 million (approx. A$4.6 million) into renovations, gutting the kitchen to install an oversized marble island made from book-matched slabs and reworking the primary suite with a double-sided fireplace that creates a series of cosy “vignettes.”

The home features a formal dining room, family room with bar and wine storage, and generous outdoor space, including a pool and hillside views.

It has also played host to many memorable family events, such as a Coachella-themed birthday party complete with a Ferris wheel and food trucks, and even a harmonica-playing elephant that once appeared in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

Despite their divorce, Milla-Morris said she and Wonder remain close friends.

The listing is held by The Beverly Hills Estates.
