Tom Esze hammers it home to take out REIWA’s Auctioneering Championships

Tom Esze from Tom Esze Auctions has taken out the Gift of the Gavel at the annual REIWA Auctioneering Championships this week.

Held at the Wembley Golf Course, the 2019 championships showcased Western Australia’s best talent in the auction space under two categories – novice and senior.

REIWA President Damian Collins said as auctions continue to grow momentum for the unique buying and selling opportunities they create, auctioneering standards in WA will also continue rise.

“The talent we have on display during these championships is impressive and serves as a strong benchmark for WA auctioneering standards,” he said.

Mr Collins congratulated Mr Esze on his win and commended him for his dedication and passion to excellence in WA auctioneering.

Adam Piller from Caporn Young Estate Agents gave a fine performance and was awarded second place, and Lachlan Sinclair from Realestimation took out the top honours in the novice category which showcases upcoming auctioneers with less than two years’ experience.

“Auctions remain a niche segment of the WA sales market, however they are becoming increasingly popular with sellers who are wanting their listing to stand out in a competitive market,” Mr Collins said.

For the three months to May 2019, reiwa.com data shows that it took Perth sellers just 27 days to sell under the hammer, compared to the 79 days on average it took for private treaty sales – a notable difference of 52 days.

“While it’s pleasing to see sellers and buyers becoming more open to this method of sale, we still have a long way to go until we can compete with the likes of Sydney and Melbourne, where auctions dominate the sales landscape,” Mr Collins said.

Mr Esze and Mr Piller will both represent REIWA at the 2019 Australasian Auctioneering Championships in Melbourne on 22-24 October 2019.
