The Hollywood starlet home where Marilyn Monroe once lived is on the market

The Hollywood home that once housed young starlets including Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich and Marilyn Monroe is up for sale for US$899,000.

According to toptenrealestatedeals.com, in the old Hollywood days, studios would house young and upcoming actors, with some studio executives even putting up young talent in their own homes.

Located in one of LA’s older areas, Monroe’s townhome, which was originally built in the 1930s, has been updated but still retains many traditional features.

The two-bedroom unit has 111sq m of living space and the entire home is drenched in light from the oversized casement windows.

It is the actual unit Monroe lived in.

Inside there are green magnesite stairs and the original Art Deco balustrade is still intact.

Both bedrooms include unique plasterwork and the colourful bathroom has a walk-in shower and original yellow and purple tilework, with a matching green bathtub, toilet, and sink.

Growing up in LA, Monroe only owned one home, a house in LA’s Brentwood neighbourhood, which she purchased in early 1962, just a few months before her death.
