The Real Estate Institute of Western Australia (REIWA) is working with the Salvation Army in support of the charity’s 2019 Sleeping Bag Appeal.
The annual initiative provides warm sleeping bags and blankets for those doing it tough on the streets of WA and REIWA has been involved with the appeal for the past five years.
“Most of us take for granted that we have a roof over our head and a warm, safe place to sleep at night, however for the growing number of homeless people in our state, this is not their reality,” REIWA President Damian Collins said.
“This appeal is a small way you can help make a difference by simply donating a sleeping bag or blanket to this worthy cause.”
REIWA agency collection points have been set up throughout the state for people wishing to donate new or freshly laundered sleeping bags or blankets.
The agencies involved will be accepting donations until Friday, 21 June.
The Salvation Army assisted over 100,000 Western Australians in 2018.
Salvation Army Public Relations Secretary Warren Palmer said over the past 12 months they had already helped over 4000 people experiencing homelessness through various initiatives the organisation provides.
“Through REIWA’s support, great comfort and care is being shown to people on the edge of life.
“The Sleeping Bag Appeal is more than just about comfort but in some cases, especially during winter, can be a significant health lifeline,” Mr Palmer said.
