Live it up in Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Hollywood film mega-mansion

Known as Te Moana, the sprawling 3296sq m property is located at 249-255 Monaco St and has previously changed hands for $12.5 million in August 2020, according to realestate.com.au.

The two-storey mansion, set among lush tropical gardens, offers five bedrooms and six bathrooms.

Outside, the property boasts an extensive al fresco entertaining terrace complete with an outdoor kitchen, a 17m swimming pool, pontoon, jetty, and a six-car garage.

The terracotta, Mediterranean-styled home was deemed by Rebecca Moffrey, of Ray White Burleigh Group, as the “Taj Mahal of its day.”

“It really was the Taj Mahal of its day, albeit with a very red terracotta, Mediterranean style,” Ms Moffrey told realestate.com.au.

“To this day, it’s still an incredible property โ€” a private estate on one of the Coast’s most prestigious streets. It’s been beautifully styled with gorgeous high ceilings and an airy open feel.

“If you like big, then this is your place.”

Te Moana shares similarities with another recent high-profile sale, a main river estate that sold last month for a whopping $24 million.

Both properties were constructed in the 1990s, boasting 42m of water frontage each, and have been touted as among Australia’s finest homes of their era.

They also both served as locations for Johnson’s big-budget disaster film.

“Te Moana is without doubt, one of the Coast’s most extravagant homes โ€” with a Hollywood history to boot,” Ms Moffrey said.

“San Andreas was one of the year’s most popular films in 2015 and there are some very distinct scenes with The Rock on the driveway and in the living room.”

The house has also served as a pandemic retreat for Australian Finance Group founder Malcolm Watkins and his partner, Peter Kerr, who are now looking to downsize.

The expressions of interest campaign is being conducted without a released price guide, but given the comparison to the recent $24 million sale, prospective buyers will need to be well-funded.

The grandeur of Te Moana, coupled with its cinematic history, promises to attract considerable attention among those looking to invest in a piece of Australia’s real estate luxury.
