HIA Industry Leader Shane Goodwin to Retire

After 22 years at HIA, the last nine as HIA’s Managing Director, Shane Goodwin, has announced he will retire in August.

“It has been an extraordinary honour and a great pleasure to serve HIA and the building and construction industry in Australia. “

“It has been a demanding and challenging role, but also an extremely rewarding one. The residential housing industry in Australia is an important economic driver for the benefit of the Australian economy and creates thousands of jobs. Ensuring that the correct policies are in place to achieve positive outcomes, such as access to essential necessities such as housing for Australians has been a very satisfying experience” said Shane.

Pino Monaco, National President of the Housing Industry Association paid tribute to the enormous contribution made by Shane in his role as Managing Director of HIA and said “It is of great credit to Shane’s endeavours that he is leaving the Association in a very strong position.

He has been a great advocate for members and for the industry generally. But he has also been at the forefront of significant policy developments that surround our complex housing industry. With Shane’s strategic leadership, HIA has been focussed on being ahead of issues. For example, by introducing an annual “industry summit” HIA was able to play a leading role in bringing issues like non-conforming building products, supply constraints on the industry and the financing of residential infrastructure, to the attention of policy makers at all levels of government.

Shane’s over-riding concern for keeping new housing affordable for the Australian community has been a hallmark of his more than twenty years with HIA. While we still face many challenges on this front, the industry and the home buying public are better placed because of his commitment and leadership.

Shane has dedicated more than four decades of his professional life to the building and construction industry having made significant contributions to benefit the community and the industry, acting as a strong advocate for reform. Shane has conducted his long career with distinction and dedication. I congratulate him on his many achievements and for his strong leadership.

On behalf of HIA members, I thank Shane for his commitment to the housing industry and wish him well in retirement.

And I am particularly pleased that post retirement, Shane has agreed to continue on HIA’s National Board as a non-executive director” said Pino.

Shane will be succeeded by Graham Wolfe, who for the last few years has been the Deputy Managing Director. “Graham takes on the role having served in senior management positions around Australia for the benefit of the Housing Industry Association and brings to the role enormous experience to carry forward the policies and strategies of the Association. The National Board and the members of the HIA wish Graham every success in his new role.” said Pino.
