Queensland property group Coronis commenced the 2016 Tour De Office this morning, Monday, September 5, with the goal of raising $40,000 for Smiling for Smiddy, a foundation that funds cancer research at the Mater.
Located out the front of Coronis HQ in Lutwyche, a team of 160 riders made up from Coronisโ 22 offices, the Smiling for Smiddy team and the Mater Foundation will ride two bikes consecutively between 8:30am and 5pm every day until Friday, September 9. The 40-hour bike challenge is designed to promote a healthy workplace, raise money for charity and to have some fun.
After raising a phenomenal $33,000+ for Diabetes Queensland and topping the 2015 Tour De Office fundraising board, Coronis Managing Director Andrew Coronis said the team had set the goal of raising $40,000 during the 2016 event.
โOur team thoroughly enjoyed riding in the 2015 Tour De Office event, getting up from our desks and having some fun together all while raising funds to support our community,โ Mr Coronis said.
โThis year, weโre continuing to promote a healthy, active office and have chosen to support Smiling for Smiddy, an Australian charity that has raised more than $7 million to date for cancer research through organised bike rides and triathlons in memory of Adam Smiddy who passed away in 2006 from an aggressive melanoma.
โWeโve kick-started the 2016 event amazingly well having already raised more than $14,000 so Iโm sure weโre in for another week of intense competition between our riders on the bikes.
โIโm especially looking forward to tomorrow when Phil Anderson, the first Australian to wear the Yellow Jersey in the Tour De France will join us and jump on the bike for an hour as part of the Coronis team.โ
