Comedian Mike King sells NZ family home for NZD$1.5m at auction

A packed auction room, 12 registered bidders and strong developer interest saw Mike Kingโ€™s Papatoetoe family home sell for $1.5 million NZD ($1.37 million AUD).

Former comedian and mental health advocate Mike King and his wife Joanna have sold their Papatoetoe family home under the hammer for $1.5 million NZD (about $1.37 million AUD).

The four-bedroom property at 29 Glen Avenue was marketed by Ray White Manukau agent Fatima Ali and went to auction before a large crowd, with Ray White New Zealand head auctioneer Sam Steele calling proceedings. Twelve buyers registered to bid.

โ€œNine of the bidders were developers and investors, and there were three home buyers,โ€ Ms Ali said.

โ€œIt was an 862sqm block in one of the best streets in Papatoetoe, which is why it attracted so many developers. A developer landed the winning bid and the under bidder was a home buyer.โ€

Ms Ali said the couple were overwhelmed with the result. โ€œThe vendors were in happy tears,โ€ she said.

Mr King and his wife had lived in the property for more than 10 years and Ms Ali said they decided to sell in order to pursue a โ€œtree changeโ€ with more privacy and to step away from the hustle and bustle.
