If there’s one thing I’ve learned as a business owner, it’s this: growth doesn’t happen in your comfort zone.
Real growth, the kind that builds resilience, leadership, and influence, happens when you step into something unfamiliar and do it anyway.
That’s why I’ve signed up to OzHarvest’s CEO Cook Off on 29 October, where I’ll swap my Buyers Agent hat for a chef’s apron to cook meals for over 100 people and raise $5,000 to support Australians in need.
I’ll be cooking in an environment that is well outside my comfort zone, but that’s exactly the point.
In real estate, like in life, it’s easy to stay where things feel safe. But genuine leadership comes from being willing to evolve, to push boundaries, try new things, and model courage for others.
Whether it’s leading a new initiative, navigating a shifting market, or giving back to the community, every act of stepping forward creates momentum.
I grew up in South Africa, where poverty and hunger were everywhere.
Coming to Australia, I’ve been grateful for every opportunity, but I also know hunger exists right here in our own backyard.
That’s why OzHarvest’s mission resonates deeply with me. They rescue food that would otherwise go to waste and turn it into meals for those who need it most.
“This challenge isn’t just about cooking: it’s about living my values. As a leader, I can’t just talk about giving back. I need to do it.”
The same applies to how we lead and innovate in business.
The real estate industry is becoming increasingly competitive, and standing out requires more than experience.
It demands curiosity, adaptability, and innovation. Leaders who embrace new ideas, technologies, and perspectives are the ones who will thrive.

That might mean adopting AI-driven marketing and analytics to better understand client needs or developing stronger digital storytelling to connect emotionally with buyers.
It could be mentoring the next generation of agents, collaboration, or sharing your knowledge and learning.
True leadership is about thought innovation, the courage to think differently, act boldly, and stay human in a fast-paced world.
So, as I step into that kitchen, I hope to inspire others to do the same, to embrace the discomfort that comes with growth, and to lead from the front with action and authenticity.
Because sometimes, the most rewarding things happen when you’re just a little uncomfortable.
