Trailblazing auctioneer Georgia Turner paves the way

Ray White NSW State Administrator and Auctioneer, Georgia Turner, has successfully sold her first property under the hammer, as she prepares to make her mark in the largely male-dominated field.

The auctioneer helped sell 3/1 Lilac St, Punchbowl, for $895,000 alongside sales agent John Yatman – $45,000 above reserve, with two active bidders trying to secure the property.

Ms Turner started her career at Ray White Sutherland Shire as a sales associate, before moving into her role at head office.

She attended her first auction at 16, shortly after starting her career in real estate, at a property in Bangor, in southern Sydney.

โ€œThe property attracted a crowd of over 80 people with 10 registered bidders,โ€ Ms Turner said of the first auction she watched live.

โ€œThe female auctioneer skilfully controlled the entire process.

โ€œI remember her presence and expertise added a unique dimension to the auction.โ€

From that point onwards, she knew she wanted her real estate career to be heavily influenced by the auction method.

โ€œWith auctions being the primary method of sale, I was regularly involved in running 10 to 15 auction campaigns simultaneously, working closely with buyers and negotiating deals,โ€ she said.

โ€œOn auction days, seeing all the hard work and process come together I realised โ€˜I can become an auctioneerโ€™.

โ€œThis insight made me question why there is a shortage of young female auctioneers in a traditionally male-dominated industry and I thought, ‘How can I become the voice and support for young females in the real estate industry’?โ€

With comprehensive industry knowledge and proven sales abilities, honed during four years working alongside Ray White Chairmanโ€™s Elite business owner, Gavin Ottaway, Ms Turner saw an opportunity to leverage her skills and bring a unique perspective to auctioneering.

Ms Turner made her move to state administrator for Ray White NSW | ACT where the process of learning the auction craft began.

Working alongside corporate auctioneers Alex Pattaro and Perryย Edmondson-Clark, as well as state CEO Tim Snell, she observed their auctioneering styles and networked with agents from different offices across the group.ย

โ€œThe experience has helped me develop my own unique style,โ€ she said.

โ€œIn addition to receiving hands-on learning from my colleagues, Iโ€™ve undergone extensive auction training and competed in the REINSW Novice Auctioneers Competition earlier this year, where I placed third in my heat.โ€

Ms Turner said her managers, Tim Snell and Bridgette Collis played a huge role in nurturing her career.

โ€œTim Snell and Bridgette Collis are both influential figures in the real estate industry, each with unique qualities that I admire and draw inspiration from,โ€ she said.

โ€œTimโ€™s expertise lies in his talent for storytelling, effortlessly engaging bidders and creating an atmosphere that captivates everyone present.

โ€œHis skill in articulating words and adeptness in handling conversations makes him stand out as a master auctioneer.โ€

โ€œBridgette is a leading lady who exemplifies strength, resilience and kindness.

โ€œBridgetteโ€™s actions speak volumes about her commitment to breaking barriers all while empowering others to embrace their potential to make a mark on the industry.โ€

Acknowledging the path paved before her by other female auctioneers, the opportunity she has to inspire others isnโ€™t lost on Ms Turner.

โ€œMy goal is to be a trailblazer, demonstrating that young females can excel in this role and make a significant impact in driving successful property sales,โ€ she said.

โ€œThereโ€™s a boundless potential for personal and professional growth – particularly as a young female auctioneer.

โ€œI see each opportunity to pave the way for other women.

โ€œI aim to provide a fresh and unique perspective, and I believe that diversity and representation enriches the auction experience for both buyers and sellers.โ€
