Retired NBL star Shaquille O’Neal sells his Lake Butler mansion

Despite dropping the price twice, American basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal made a cool US$7.05 million profit, following the sale of his Isleworth, Lake Butler estate near Orlando, Florida.

O’Neal purchased the highly customised mansion in 1993 for US$3.95 million, before originally listing it for sale with a price tag of US$28 million.

He later reduced the price to US$16.5 million, eventually selling the 31,000 square foot home for US$11 million.

O’Neal’s mansion is located in a gated golf community near Disney World and ESPN, spanning across three acres.

It includes 12 bedrooms, 15 bathrooms, a chef’s kitchen, massive living room, formal dining, media room with bar and a so-called “gentlemen’s room” that includes game tables and a wet bar.

The master wing has a four-room closet, his-and-her baths and a custom 15-foot round bed.

The guest wing is a spectacular home in its own right, and includes a bar and five ensuite bedrooms.

There are a few unique features too, such as a temperature-controlled, cedar-planked humidor and wine storage, plus an aquarium-style room with an impressive triangular saltwater fish tank.

O’Neal was represented by Benjamin Hillman with Premier Sotheby’s International Realty, while Rob Rahter, a broker associate and luxury home specialist with Stockworth Realty Group, represented the buyer.
