Biggin’s remarkable journey began as a 19-year-old former jackaroo from Queensland, cycling through Melbourne suburbs collecting rent for Tom Scott’s business.
This humble start would eventually lead to the creation of one of Melbourne’s most respected real estate brands.
Despite initial reluctance about working weekends, Mr Biggin committed himself to the industry, completing formal qualifications in real estate and valuations to transform from a rent collector to a highly respected property professional.
In the mid-1960s, Mr Biggin formed a pivotal partnership with Barry and Lou Arnold, merging their businesses to create Arnold and Scott.
This collaboration showcased Mr Biggin’s vision for growth and laid the groundwork for what would eventually become BigginScott in the early 1970s.
Tom McCarthy, reflecting on Mr Biggin’s influence, emphasised his people-first approach to business.
“Kevin taught us that real estate isn’t about properties, it’s about people,” McCarthy said.
“He’d light up talking about the young couple who just bought their first home, and you could tell he was thinking about his own journey, from that kid on a bike to helping families find their dreams.”
Mr Biggin’s country upbringing, which included calling square dances in Queensland, informed his authentic approach to client relationships.
He maintained this personal touch even as he embraced new technologies and industry changes throughout his career.
His business philosophy centred on treating people with respect, working diligently, delivering on promises, and continuous learning.
These principles became the foundation of BigginScott’s company culture and continue to guide the business today.
Mr Biggin transformed what was already an established Melbourne real estate firm from the late 1800s by reimagining its potential while staying true to his humble beginnings.
His insistence that every office feels like a neighbourhood hub reflects his deep understanding of community connection.
The company continues to embody Mr Biggin’s values in every transaction, maintaining his legacy of making significant life decisions easier and more personal for clients.
His influence extends beyond business practices to the company’s fundamental approach to client care.
Even as the industry transformed around him, Kevin’s core beliefs, forged during those early cycling days and Queensland nights, never wavered.
In every handshake, every solved problem, every celebration of a client’s success, Kevin’s legacy lives on.
