REA Group has announced the appointment of Georgia Beattie as Executive Manager of Spacely, the companyโs new property website for shared work and short-term commercial spaces for events, retail, meeting rooms and creative spaces.
Ms Beattie joins REA Group from Startup Victoria where she has served as chief executive since 2016.
Launched in May last year in beta, Spacely is already the number one listings site for the fastgrowing flexible workspace and short-term commercial listings market and the company has flagged its ambitions to continue to scale its business.
Announcing Ms Beattieโs appointment, REA Groupโs EGM Commercial & Developer, Joseph Lyons, said, โThe volume of co-working space continues to grow at a phenomenal rate. So Spacely needs a leader who understands the needs of start-ups and embodies the creativity, focus and entrepreneurial spirit that exists in the shared workspace environment.
โGeorgiaโs strong ties to the start-up community, coupled with her ability to take ideas and execute them on a global scale, makes her the perfect fit for this role,โ said Mr Lyons.
Ms Beattie said:โThe exponential growth in co-working spaces is a very real sign that the nature of work is changing. Spacely is a fantastic platform to bring people together, whether theyโre starting up, branching out, or gearing up for growth. Iโm excited to be able to lead the business, and together with the team, take it to the next level.โ
โThe opportunity to join REA, which has always been front and centre of doing things differently in the digital industry on both a local and global scale, was hard to ignore,โ said Ms Beattie.
The expansion of co-working has gathered significant momentum, with the number of co-working spaces growing by over 300% since 2013 to 309 spaces, occupying over 193, 190sqm, with Melbourne accounting for over 50% and Sydney almost 40% of the spaces.
Ms Beattie joins REA Group at the end of February.
