Private island oasis up for grabs for US$15 million

Many buyers may dream of owning their own private island but it’s not too often one comes on the market.

But now Pine Island, a 56-acre tranquil oasis in Okatie, on the coast of South Carolina, is for sale for a cool US$15 million.

Listed by SERHANT’s Chris Bowes, the secluded property, which is part of the upscale community of Spring Island, is accessed by a causeway.

The heavily treed island features a 168m deepwater dock with a pavilion, kayak launch and a boat lift, as well as a three-bedroom main house and a one-bedroom guest cottage.

Both were designed by architect William McDonough who focuses on ‘green architecture’, the environment and sustainable design.

The main home has a traditional, serene Japanese influence, with tiered, wraparound decks encasing the facade of the home.

The exterior has been completed in red cedar, with a copper roof, while inside awaits soaring timber ceilings and floors in white oak wood, lots of millwork and hand-forged copper railings.

A formal entry foyer welcomes you inside and offers views to a stunning bamboo garden, before flowing onto a range of living and dining areas.

On one side is an enormous games, television and living room, with a soapstone fireplace and a bar, while in the other direction lies the kitchen, breakfast room and formal dining space.

All of the bedrooms are strategically located on the fringes of the home for the ultimate in privacy, with the enormous primary suite offering space for a sitting area and a connecting ensuite with a sunken spa bath with views across the island.

Outdoors, decking wraps around the entire home and leads to a saltwater swimming pool.

While there is only the main residence and guest cottage on Pine Island, there is a possibility of building four more.

Pine Island is within the Spring Island community and amenities include a world-class sports complex, an equestrian centre, the Arnold Palmer designed, Old Tabby Golf Links golf course, tennis and pickleball courts, a yoga studio, a gym and 12 employees, including massage therapists, personal trainers and yoga instructors.
